Kathy Guillermo

As a senior vice president of PETA, Kathy Guillermo’s many duties include leading the organization’s campaign to end cruelty in the horse racing industry. She has been with PETA for 36 years and has overseen the release of multiple horse racing investigations that have exposed the deaths of young horses at Thoroughbred auctions; the rampant electro-shocking and drugging of Quarter horses with meth and cocaine at underground “bush” tracks; the slaughter of U.S. horses exported to Canada, Japan, Mexico, and South Korea; and the dangerous misuse of medication by horse trainers, which led to the introduction and passage of federal legislation, and more. Her work also resulted in the formation of the racing industry’s first-ever industry-supported retirement program for horses.
